ORFORD Lane residents will soon be asked what measures they would like to see implemented to make their streets safer.
The borough council has set aside £200,000 to carry out traffic calming measures and a public consultation will begin to establish the details.
Traffic calming options will be presented to residents at an exhibition as the first stage in preparing the scheme, which will cover Orford Lane and the residential streets to the east.
Options could include road humps and chicanes and a pedestrian road safety scheme for the Pinners Brow junction.
Clr Mike Hughes said: "We have worked extremely hard over the years to find funding for Urban Regeneration in the older parts of the town.
"There is a general problem with traffic in the town and people often rat run down residential streets which is a danger especially to children.
"A traffic calming scheme will make the environment safer for these people."
Fairfield and Howley Ward councillors Joan Harpin and Ann Haddow also expressed delight at hearing that a traffic scheme was to to take place.
A date for the public exhibition has yet to be arranged.
