A CRASH on Palacefields Busway has been described this week as "another disaster waiting to happen".

On Saturday morning, six people were taken to hospital after a Ford Escort collided with two buses at the junction of Palacefields Avenue.

Fortunately, no-one was seriously hurt and all the casualties were later discharged.

But Cllr Bill Murphy believes it's another disaster waiting to happen.

He said: "It's like the Paddington rail crash. It takes accidents like this before anyone will do anything about it.

"These lights need to be looked at. There are always people jumping them. The buses are under pressure to run on time and the drivers edge forward as well.

"We've been in talks with Halton Council and they are in the process of implementing traffic calming measures - and the sooner the better.

"We've been campaigning for ages to get the lights moved back along with areas for pedestrians to walk on because it's just not safe. Hopefully, work will be starting in the very near future."

The driver of the car was taken to Warrington Hospital and was treated for minor injuries and five passengers on one of the buses were treated at Halton Hospital.

Palacefields Avenue was closed off for an hour after the crash and Runcorn police are asking for witnesses to come forward to help them establish how the accident happened.
