PARENTS, pupils and staff celebrated as Middlewich High School held their 20th annual Certificate Evening last Wednesday, October 13.
Presenting the prizes was principal guest Baroness MacFarlane of Llandaff, the first Professor of Nursing at the University of Manchester and a life peer since 1979.
Also attending were the Mayor and Mayoress of Congleton Borough, Clr Rab Parry and his wife Jennifer and the Mayor of Middlewich Clr Ben Hart.
As well as the student prizes, five teachers had their turn in the spotlight when they were were presented with a token of appreciation for 20 years service. Susan Shaw, Lynda Kappes, Leigh Webber, Will Hibbert and Philip Littlemore have all been at the school since it opened in 1979 and have each amassed in excess of 3,800 school days since they first joined Middlewich High School
Among the prize winners was Andrew Sellors who won no less than four awards including the Winsford & Middlewich Guardian Prize for Most Outstanding Academic Achievement.
Headmaster Philip Andrews addressed the audience and spoke warmly of the success of former pupils in last summer's GCSE exams when 59% of them gained five or more A-C grades and 63% of all the GCSE's taken were passed. He also thanked the many donors of the prizes awarded.
