HOWARD Mainwaring rounded off his Junior British 80cc Road Race Championship winning year by knocking two seconds off the lap record at Three Sisters, Wigan.
The speedy 13-year-old, a pupil at Woodford Lodge High School, has now been granted a special licence to compete in senior motorcycle races next year, when he moves up to 125cc class.
The exciting youngster has set the scene alight since blazing on to the track last year.
Then he finished fifth, but in 1999 he has failed to win only one of his 16 races, and clinched the title at the previous meeting at Aintree in August.
