PUPILS from Middlewich High School took part in a remarkable feat of fund-raising last weekend.
Three of the school's teachers, Mr John O' Boyle, Miss Samantha Books and Miss Hilary Watt organised a sponsored 24 hour study marathon. The idea was for students from years 10 and 11 to stay awake from 8.45pm Friday, October 15 until 8.45pm the following Saturday whilst studying GCSE coursework and a total of 40 staff and pupils participated.
Strategies were employed to help everyone stay awake, such as watching study videos and CD ROM. However, pupils (and teachers) seemed to prefer the delivery of fish and chips and a 3.30am aerobic session to keep their eyes open!
The pupils raised around £900 which will be used to buy a wheelchair to enable the disabled to participate in sport and further events are planned.
