ACTION is being taken to breathe new life into a run down part of Winsford.
The Neighbourhood Centre, on Cheviot Square, is to be given a face-lift to improve community services.
It will be given a new look, both inside and out, and Vale Royal's housing office will also move into the building.
Work is set to be started early next year.
"The fabric of the shops have deteriorated over the years, there is graffiti and the whole area doesn't look nice. We want to make it more attractive," said Cheshire County Council's acting community officer Tony Challinor.
The project is being organised by Vale Royal Borough and Cheshire County councils.
Residents will also be asked for their ideas and views on how to revitalise the square.
Town councillor Tony Hooton explained the need for change.
He said: "Neither of the two centres are viable and they are in a part of town which badly needs a face-lift.
"The general view is this is an area which is not acceptable in terms of how it looks and feels. All being well, we should be sorted out before the beginning of the next financial year."
Meetings are now being planned to find out what people want from the changes.
