I WAS walking my dog around the Kingsmead estate on October 9 - the part where the two signs are advertising Gooch Webster land available for retail and leisure purposes - when I noticed an A4 piece of paper stapled to a post.
It stated that a Simon Christopher Lees Jones of J W Lees and Co (brewery) Ltd, of Manchester, will be applying in October for a licence to sell alcohol in a premises on Kingsmead Square, Regency Way, Kingsmead, the premises being named The Kingsmead public house.
I am no snob, but why put a pub on such a well thought-out and tasteful development with over 600 houses presently built, and a further 400-plus to be built, with the majority housing families?
With the present estate roads busy, someone thinks there is a need to advertise for more cars and sell people alcohol at the same time. Kingsmead is at present a credit to Northwich, but now it will end up being scarred.
