CHAIRMAN Mike Worthington will meet Witton Albion supporters and shareholders tonight, Wednesday, to discuss steps the club needs to take in order to survive, writes NICK SMITH.

He will present three options to solve the club's financial crisis - Albion staying as they are, moving to a new ground, or amalgamating with another club.

Worthington said: "It will be an informal meeting and an open discussion on the options for the future of the club.

"There are financial implications with all the options and although we might not agree on one we all like, we need to go for one we can afford."

On the amalgamation issue, Worthington would not speculate on details, but said: "I have a very close working relationship with the chairmen of Northwich and Winsford and we regularly meet to discuss the future of football in Mid-Cheshire."

If Witton decide to carry on at Wincham Park, success on the field, where the team are three points clear at the top of UniBond Division One, won't guarantee an improvement in finances.

Worthington said: "Our position hasn't shown through in the gates yet, but this time last year we were in mid-table and we were getting exactly the same gates as we're getting at the moment, so we can't talk about at what stage support will increase."

The latest success for Nigel Gleghorn's team was a 4-2 win at Whitley Bay on Saturday.

Following last night's visit of Ashton United, Albion travel to Farsley Celtic this Saturday (3pm).

They are likely to be without Lee Murphy, who may have played his last game for the club, leaving the area due to work commitments.

Gareth West, a 22-year-old who played with Gleghorn at Burnley, has been signed from Rhyl to replace him.
