LOCAL pool players will have the opportunity to take on the pros at their own game on Monday, October 25, when Northwich becomes a national venue.
The Greenbank Hotel, on Chester Road, has been chosen by the International Pool Playing Association to host a round of the Embassy Professional Pool Masters.
Bill Hoven and Darren Appleton will be fighting it out for a place in the last 16 of the prestigious event.
Once the serious business is over, the regulars will be right on cue to take to the table for a series of challenge matches against the big guns.
Although the Greenbank has hosted such big matches before, it is the chance for local players to play professionals which licensee Paul O'Malley is hoping will make it a special occasion and attract an audience.
He said: "After the match our customers will be playing challenge games until closing and it's open to anyone in Northwich who wants to play pool.
"It's all part of the fun on the night and a chance for local players to compete against the best players in the country.
"The pros will also be performing trick shots and there will be an award for the player of the night."
The match between Hoven and Appleton starts at 7.30pm and should be finished by 9pm, when the local lads will begin their games.
