Moore RUFC 12
Prenton 19
MOORE'S hopes of a prolonged run in the Tetley Vase competition collapsed on Saturday with one of the worst team performances for many seasons.
From the kick-off and for the whole of the first half their game plan fell apart as unforced errors and a failure to do the basics right provided Prenton too much possession and the game was played around the Moore 22 metre line.
By half-time Prenton had built up a 19-0 lead and it could have been much more.
The half-time roasting from coach Frank Williams saw the effort and commitment improve and Prenton were denied any further scoring opportunities.
Despite winning most of the ball and keeping Prenton on the defensive the Moore team still failed to play with any of their normal cohesion and a number of good opportunities were wasted.
Chris Allen and Steve Woollacott scored a try each and Ian Bradbury kicked one conversion to bring a glimmer of hope but this was to be a game best forgotten.
Moore travel to Sefton this week in a league encounter. Moore last met Sefton in the 1997-98 season, winning 15-12.
Their second team lost 28-24 to Northwich in an evenly-matched encounter.
Moore lost the services of John Stockton through injury at the start of the game but replacement Chris Senior played well on his return to after his time at university.
Graham Potter scored two tries and kicked two conversions while Mark Dignum and Pete Woollacott grabbed a try each. Man of the match was prop Geoff Wilson.
