LAST season's beaten finalists Rylands needed extra time before disposing of Butchers Arms 6-5 in the second round of Warrington Sunday Soccer League's Denis Scholes Challenge Trophy.
Andy Duxbury, three, Mark Howell, two and John Whittaker were Rylands' marksmen while Paul Holt struck with a hat-trick for Butchers.
Holders Grange Valley, with braces from Gary Bickerstaffe and Bryan Griffiths, defeated Howley 6-3. Lee Adamson and Metin Testan completed the scoring for Valley.
Surprise result of the day was third division outfit Matthiola's defeat of Martin Dawes from the Premier 3-1.
For Matthiola, Dave Morgan, Ian Gibbon and Darren Windsor netted with goalkeeper Gary Blinston having an outstanding game. Martin Dawes' only reply was a Kevin Hughes penalty.
Old Ball moved into the third round thanks to a Karl Best hat-trick in their 6-1 win against Lunt and St. Benedicts.
Hounds and Hare edged out KK Cabs 6-5 with Mark Cozens hitting a last minute winner. Earlier, Joe Edwards had enjoyed a hat-trick for the victors.
Mark Tilling chipped in with three in Allied Alex's 6-0 success at Daresbury.
Gas Social and Woolston OB could not be separated even after extra time. An Alan Delooze penalty gave Gas the lead but Tony Richardson equalised. In extra time Roy Gillespie put Woolston ahead before Paul McEvoy's last minute header levelled the scores.
Jonathan Hardman, two and Scott Taylor helped St. Oswalds pull off a splendid 3-2 win at Culcheth.
Frank Bird, with four and Tony Hales, with a hat-trick, helped Greenwood Star Alarms to eliminate Callands 10-0.
Turf and Feather ended Causeway's cup hopes by beating them 3-2. Colin Voos snatched a couple of goals with Chris Burrows adding a third. Causeway hit back but Turf goalkeeper Mark Lee made several fine saves in the closing stages.
Doubles for Tony Wilde and Dave Williams gave Pierpoint and Bryant the spoils against Starting Gate.
Lance Johnson and Dave Porter were Cheese's heroes in their 2-0 victory against Poacher.
Lord Rodney were no match for Community House losing 14-0. Lee Hughes and Paul Kinsey grabbed a hat-trick with Mark Williamson hitting four.
Simon King, two, Ian Gough and Neil Leamey eased Seven Woods past Stocks 4-0.
Seven of the best for General Elliott as they disposed of Thelwall Manor. On target were Matt Topping, two, Dave Pym, Neil Cooper, Chris Jordan, Danny Chadwick and Ben Holden.
North Cheshire Celtic's visit to Insall Rangers proved successful. Craig Canning scored three in their 7-0 win.
Red Lion got the better of Woodies 3-2. Lee Kinsey knocked in a couple for Lion.
