HOMELESS people in Warrington can take refuge in a night shelter from December 1 - and volunteers are needed to help out.
The Winter Watch shelter scheme offers hot food, a safe, warm place to sleep, access to medical services, support, advice and companionship for between 10 and 15 people every night.
Run by Warrington Action for Homeless in partnership with the charity CRISIS, the shelter will be open every night from December 1, 1999 to March 31, 2000.
The success of the scheme relies on the willingness of volunteers to help with daily tasks and support work, as well as donations of food, clothing or toiletries.
Co-ordinator Sue Blyth said: "The winter months are the worst time of the year for people living on the streets, especially over the Christmas period.
"This is a time of increased isolation and loneliness.
"We aim to help by providing a refuge from the cold with support within a caring atmosphere."
Anyone wishing to volunteer their help or donate provisions should contact Sue on 632771 or 411115.
