TO mark the Millennium, the Warrington GUARDIAN is planning to place a "time capsule" in the grounds of the Academy on Bridge Street.

The plan is for the statue of Oliver Cromwell to watch over the capsule for the next 100 years or so, ready for the Warringtonians of the future to dig it up and find out what life was like in the year 1999.

The practically indestructible tube, built to withstand the rigours of being underground for more than a century, will only be able to contain small items.

And we want you, the GUARDIAN readers, to tell us what should be placed inside. They could be items manufactured in the town, or something that says something about the way people live here.

The only thing that is definitely going in so far is the Millennium Edition of the Warrington GUARDIAN, our special bumper New Year publication. But there will be plenty of room for other items.

If you think you know what should be hidden in the ground for future generations to discover, contact the GUARDIAN newsdesk on 434114, e-mail us at cwood@cheshire.newsquest.co.uk, or write to The Academy, 138 Bridge Street, Warrington WA1 2RU.
