WATCH out William Hague - there's a political young gun firing on all cylinders living on the outskirts of Warrington.

The Tory leader famously addressed the Conservative Party Conference while still barely out of short pants.

But in 15-year-old Michelle Donelan, from Tarporley Road, Whitley, he might just have met his match.

The talented teenager - who has an MP's position in her sights - took the Blackpool conference by storm with her contribution to a forum on post-devolution Britain.

Seasoned debater Michelle, a member of the Sale and Altrincham West Conservative Association, firmly believes the United Kingdom should retain a strong sense of identity.

And this puts her at odds with Tony Blair's avowed intentions to create a series of regional assemblies.

Michelle told the GUARDIAN: "I feel that local government is very important but that regional assemblies is taking it too far and will break down England. We need to be together as a nation."

Her previous experience, speaking in front of assorted school gatherings, had not prepared her for her political baptism of fire, which she admitted had led to a touch of nerves.

Words of support were also forthcoming for the embattled Mr Hague from the youngster, who confessed she had certainly become recognised more around the village after her landmark speech.

Added Michelle: "I think that William Hague is a very strong leader and will make Prime Minister."
