A MOBILE fishmonger is bringing a touch of magic to the doorsteps of Penketh - by turning his round into a magical mystery tour.
Peter Turner, aged 37, of Livingstone Close, Old Hall, supplies fresh fish to almost 1,000 customers in Penketh. But as his alter-ego Mister Ree, he also treads the boards at clubs, parties and functions, wowing audiences with sleight-of-hand, psychic tricks and illusions.
Now, Peter has brought his conjuring talents into his day job to entertain customers. As well as delivering their weekly supply of cod or haddock, he reads their minds, tells fortunes, does card tricks and makes things disappear!
Said Peter: "The fish round is my bread and butter and the magic is more of a sideline, but it goes down a treat with my customers.
"I don't do big stage stuff like chopping women in half. My magic is more mysterious - it consists of illusions, classic card tricks and mentalism. Plus the old ladies love my palm reading!"
Magic may be a part-time passion for Peter but there's nothing fishy about his credentials. A card-carrying member of the Magic Circle, he was inspired to take up magic 15 years ago after seeing a magician perform in Las Vegas. When he returned, he joined a magic group in Bolton and learned his craft.
He has since toured as a street magician as far afield as Australia, Fiji, and Haiti, where he was taken for a voodoo witchdoctor!
He said: "I take my magic on holidays all over the world and the tricks pay for everything. They went down so well in Turkey that I even ended up on national TV!"
The award-winning magic man even lectures on his craft and is in constant demand to perform at private functions as word spreads through his customers.
Peter said: "It means my customers get a little more than they bargained for - and their kids love it!"
