WINNINGTON Park ladies' hockey team were due to meet Wilmslow in the Cheshire Cup Plate, but Wilmslow were unable to fulfil the fixture and conceded the game, allowing Winnington an easy ride into the next round.
Winnington 2nds were, however, in action, playing a strong Deeside 2nds team in the Cheshire Cup quarter-final at Sir John Deane's College.
Deeside, who play in the North League Feeder Division, were always the favourites and did indeed prove too strong for Winnington, romping home to a fast-paced 5-1 win.
Although Park battled valiantly and managed to produce some some good attacking moves, Deeside's all-round game proved stronger.
Their fast, accurate passing and confident breaks ensured that Park were kept on the back foot throughout the game, but in the final 10 minutes of the game, Julie Rafferty snatched a consolation goal for Park.
THIS Saturday, Park's 1sts are away to Leyland Motors in a league game. The 2nds take on Acton in a league game at Sir John Deane's (2.15pm), while the 3rds are away to Warrington in the league.
