A £30,000 reward is being offered to help find the killer of Charlie Jones.
The money has been put up by police and comes nearly two years after Charlie was attacked.
Charlie, from Rudheath, was set upon on January 25 1998 as he made his way home from a night out at his local club.
He was found unconscious by a neighbour just yards from his Parkfield Road home and was taken to Leighton Hospital.
But he died of a blood clot on the brain, on February 15 - caused by the attack.
Police launched a major investigation including a Northwich Guardian appeal and a reconstruction on Granada's 'Crimefile', but they are no nearer to finding a motive for the attack.
Now police are offering the reward in a bid to persuade people with information to come forward.
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Thompson, in charge of the investigation, said: "Parkfield Road and the areas around the takeaway and the RAF Club were busy with people passing to and fro on that cold January night, yet we have had relatively few witnesses come forward. I am now hopeful that the reward will lead to information which will help us to bring Charles Jones' killer to justice."
Information can be offered to the police enquiry team in confidence on 01244 613276.
Or ring the Crimestoppers Hotline on 0800 555 111.
