CAMPAIGNERS for the Cuddington and Sandiway Action Group are calling for work to stop immediately at the Chester Road tip.
The group is horrified at the report from Dr Murray, and its implications. "They should stop work now and cover it over as a short-term thing and find a safer method of extracting the waste," said Chris Cowan. "I don't care if it takes five years to take the stuff away.
"I don't care if they have to extract it one teaspoon at a time - as long as it's safe."
"This tip isn't being excavated for the good of the people of Sandiway, it's only being done to build houses," he added.
Members of the group now fear that the authorities will drag everything out - so that excavation will be finished by the time any action can be taken. "It's incredible in this day and age that people can get away with this. Do we have to fall down dead before anything is done. It's diabolical," added Chris.
