Shabab Tavakoli, owner of Plumley Service Station, believes Highway Agency's efforts to stop right turns into and out of Plumley Moor Road has affected trade. "The highways department have placed double white lines on the A556 due to the fast flow of traffic on the road," he said in a letter to Macclesfield Borough Council.

"This has caused confusion to drivers as it has stopped patrons travelling from Northwich to Knutsford turning into Plumley Service Station."

Next year road bosses plan to build a traffic island on the A556 opposite Plumley Moor Road.

This will stop right turns on to the A556 and provide a waiting area for traffic wanting to turn right into Plumley Moor Road.

But Mr Tavakoli wants transport bosses to amend their scheme so Knutsford-bound drivers can turn right into his forecourt.

"While Mr Tavakoli is not totally in favour of the scheme he has indicated that he would be willing to support the removal of the right turn out from the site on to Chester Road," said the businessman's transport adviser in a letter to the council.

But to make up for loss of trade he wants planners to allow him to continue selling cars on the station's forecourt.

Planners have served four enforcement notices concerning unauthorised car sales and development on the green belt site.

"These are attractive cars for sale even for people who have no intention of buying them," said ward Clr Sue Kipling.

"I would oppose anything that could cause accidents."

Mr Tavakoli, who has submitted plans to sell cars at the station, has appealed against the enforcements.

The hearing will be on Tuesday 16 November.

Yesterday (Tuesday) his agent Chris Prenderleith was unavailable for comment until next week.
