REBECCA Tynan proved herself to be top of the chops last week, winning a gold medal in the British Karate Championships.

The 12-year-old (left), of Coronation Avenue, beat off some of the best youngsters in the country at the Birmingham NEC.

Dave Warburton, chief instructor at Winsford's Shukokai Karate Union club, summed up her national success. He said: "Rebecca has always been a good fighter and to be the best in Britain is a tremendous performance."

The Shukokai Shitoryu British Club championships at Sheffield also produced success.

Michael Evans (below, right) beat Dean Millar (below, left) in an all-Winsford final to take the title for cadets under five feet tall.

Laura Dodds, also pictured below, shows off the cup she won for winning the girl's event.
