A WINSFORD training firm is pioneering a new 'driving licence' scheme for people using computers.
Mid Cheshire Training Services is offering a full course in the European Computer Driving Licence at budget rates - and those taking the course don't even have to leave their work desk to do it.
MCTS' business development chief Barrie Brown explained: "In the years to come, the ECDL is going to become more and more crucial as a qualification.
"Certainly, many companies in Europe are already asking for it from anyone who is going to use a computer in their firm.
"Europe-wide, about 50,000 people have already qualified in it. And we're currently training about 65 students in the course."
The course, which is taught in seven modules, can be done on-line by hooking up to MCTS from your place of work. The modules are:
Introduction to computers and software
Using the computer and managing files
Word processing
Spreadsheets
Databases
Presentations and drawings
The internet and e-mail.
The length of the course varies. Those who are up on their software may complete it in one month, while the average work rate is a module per month.
And, while the average price for the course is around £600, MCTS is offering some knockdown rates.
"Basically, we charge £295 per head to companies with over 50 employees, and £50 per head to those with less than 50 on their books," Mr Brown added.
