ON October 7, I attended a meeting at Vale Royal Council Chambers and listened to the council debating the Lostock triangle.
The debate was pointless as the Labour-dominated council had already made up its mind.
Ann McEllin and Michael Fellows were brilliant in putting their case against developing the triangle, but to no avail.
The council had a point to prove and nothing was going to change their minds. We had the deputy mayor saying he drives past Morrisons every day, and would you believe it, Morrisons has disappeared! He doesn't mention the thousands of HGVs Morrisons creates on our roads every week. Another Labour councillor said he just happened to knock on someone's door in Lostock asking directions - and they told him they didn't mind the triangle being developed. If he had to ask where the triangle was, what right has he got to have a say in its future?
Another long time Labour councillor said it would create 1,600 jobs; when asked how much traffic it would put on to the roads of Lostock he said "I don't know".
During the debate not one Labour councillor mentioned traffic jams, noise or pollution, not one Labour councillor mentioned quality of life, not one Labour councillor mentioned the loss of good arable farmland and open countryside.
Absolutely nowhere is safe in Vale Royal from these so-called planners. Please write to John Prescott MP, House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA.
