READING the letters page, one can't help but notice that most of the communications are complaining about the world we live in.

More police officers on the beat are requested because people are frightened by the behaviour of so many of the population.

The police are accused of being cowardly - but one must remember the miscreants they have to deal with in this day and age are far more violent than 20 years ago.

Drivers are selfish and do break the highway code if they can get where they want faster than anyone else.

It is such a competitive materialistic world today, few people have any manners. It is every man for himself or herself and to hell with anyone who gets in the way.

Television news coverage of wars and disasters make one almost immune to loss of life - it is only when one's own life is coming to an end that you realise how precious it is.

I cannot see anything improving until money is more evenly distributed, education includes how to treat one's fellow men and women, and parents teach their children some manners.
