Some old people shop on Saturdays to shorten what would perhaps be a very long lonely weekend.
Weekends and Bank Holidays are the worst times for lonely people. Pennies are counted out very carefully, it may be all the money left from the state pension.
Please put yourself in their shoes, remembering the Indian proverb "I grumbled because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet."
