I HAD to write in to you in regard to a sad scene that I saw while walking to the Drill Field at the weekend (Saturday October 16).
I was walking behind the old fire station along the scenic river footpath towards the newly refurbished Victoria Bridge and to my shock I saw that no fewer than 21 trees had been cut down for a new development.
My first point is how can this type of activity be happening when we are encouraging third world countries like Brazil not to cut trees down.
How can this have passed planning permission?
The stumps that I saw looked quite healthy and had obviously had a number of years' growth.
When will the council learn that we should be encouraging people to look after the local environment - not destroying that which has been part of a beauty spot for a number of years.
How will our children view the future Northwich when all of what we have come to take for granted has either been cut down, or removed to make way for new developments.
This has to stop.
