CRAIG Redgate was Knypersley Vics' cup hero on Saturday as he hit a second half winner for his side against Gornal Athletic.

The Vics took an early lead in their first round FA Carslberg Vase clash, only for Gornal to square the match half way through the half.

Redgate hit the winner when he made it 2-1 20 minutes into the second half.

Knypersley made a perfect start when Palin put them ahead after only three minutes.

Rafferty tapped a short free kick to Shallcross, and received the ball back before crossing to the near post where Palin headed home.

Vics' keeper Powner went down to block from Shaw on 25 minutes when the Knypersley defence failed to clear their lines, and Powner pounced on the loose ball.

Gornal equalised in their next attack when an attempted clearance out of the Vics' defence was intercepted and swept wide to a player who rifled a shot in.

Knypersley went close on the half hour when Bedson curled a shot just wide of the post.

A lovely Vics' move on the hour saw Simpson square the ball to Rafferty, who rounded a defender and drew the keeper only to shoot wide.

Knypersley made it 2-1 on 65 minutes after some excellent work by subsitute Redgate, who outstripped a defender before smashing in a shot, which was blocked.

Redgate followed up the rebound, and rounded the keeper to sweep the ball in.

The Gornal keeper saved well frolm Dutton five minutes later, and the Vics had a fright with five minutes left when Shenton played the ball back to Powner.

The keeper's attempted clearance was charged down, and the ball bounced over him and inches past the post.
