ALSAGER Round Table has splashed out £3,000 on fireworks to make this year's bonfire party one to remember.

The cost of the fireworks for next Saturday's town display is a third up on the 1998 show to create more colour and impact.

Despite the increase the extra cost is not being passed on to bonfire goers, with ticket prices being held at last year's level.

The bonfire celebrations are being held at Alsager's university campus, with the bonfire due to be lit at 6.30pm.

The fireworks will rocket skyward half an hour later, the display will last for about 40 to 45 minutes, and money raised will go to local charities.

"It will be a different, all new display this year because we wanted to do something special for the new Millennium," said bonfire organiser Andy Edwards.

"We have gone for more colour and a wider coverage in the sky, and the bonfire is always well attended."

Families will not have to worry about muddy conditions, as the spectator areas including a fun fair will be set out on hard core ground.

Tickets are £2.50 for adults and £2 for OAPs and under-14s, and are 50p cheaper if bought in advance.

There is free car parking, and tickets are available at Alsager newsagents, and Rode Heath and Lawton Heath stores.
