TWO young women were left terrfied after a robber burst into their shop and fired a shot in the air on Saturday night.

The shop assistants were alone in Dillons Convenience store on Gainsborough Road when the robbery happened at 9.50pm.

A man, wearing a white net across his face, demanded money from the women before firing a gun and making off with the cash.

Police are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the robbery, or saw anything suspicious in the area at that time, to contact them.

The man entered the shop through the front door and brandished a gun towards the assistants.

He then fired the weapon, which police believe may have been an air gun, into the air and told them to open the till.

The women then split up and went around the counter where one of the assistants opened the till and gave him £166 in cash before he walked out.

The robber is described as a white male, aged 16-18 years, short between 5ft 4 and 5ft 7, of slim build with dark hair and a local accent.

He was wearing a padded black three-quarter length jacket, zipped up to the top, with black, close fitting trousers and black training shoes with a white mark on them. His face was covered with white netting material.

DC John Ruggiero, of Crewe CID, said: "It must have been a frightening ordeal for the staff.

"There was a firearm discharge but as no bullets were discovered or damage to the ceiling, it can be assumed blanks were fired or possibly an air gun."

Anyone who has any information is asked to contact Crewe CID on 01244 613333.
