MISSED chances in the opening stages proved costly for Rylands on Saturday.
Mike Astbury, Simon Lee and Scott Taylor all failed to beat the Whitchurch goalkeeper after being put through and in the second half the defence failed to clear the ball and Ellis fired home from 20 yards.
Brocklehurst lashed a loose ball into the net after a back header from Neil Selby put Adair under pressure. Then Wilson pulled a goal back after good work by Colin Jeffrey but Rylands could not equalise.
This week they travel to Linotype, players meet at 12.30pm.
The reserves lost 4-3 at Irlam Catholic Club in the Guardian Cup with their goals coming from Addison, Darbyshire and an absolute cracker by Ormson.
Chorlton Reserves are their next opponents at home tomorrow, Saturday, kick-off 2.15pm.
A Liam Corbett hat-trick sealed Rylands under 16s' 3-1 win over unbeaten Padgate St. Oswalds.
Ex-Rylands and Greenalls players take on Rockcliffe Computers in the Lee Hardman Memorial Trophy at Victoria Park tonight, Friday, kick-off 7pm.
