I WAS interested to read the letter from Mr Watt asking why "old people" shop on Saturdays. May I suggest that he considers the following possible reasons?
They require fresh food for the weekend.
They wish to visit stalls in the market which are not available on Tuesdays or Fridays.
They are dependent on lifts into town from friends or relatives who are not free at any other time.
They are lonely and appreciate the opportunity to be in the community.
Obviously, this short list does not cover every possibility.
As for the care they take over their money, many find it difficult to make ends meet.
Yes, I am one of these troublesome old people, but I invariably find that most of the younger people of Northwich are patient, courteous and considerate and in return I try not to be a nuisance to them.
