WE are all suffering the inconvenience caused by the road and bridge works on the Northwich bypass, but I can't help but feel that the design of the diversion system has not been properly thought out.

The speed restrictions, undoubtedly necessary, are badly signed and don't appear to have any logic. They appear to shift between 40 mph and 30 mph with little or no warning.

For some unknown reason, there does not appear to be a single de-restriction sign to indicate that the speed limits have reverted to normal. Travelling westwards, the first de-restriction sign appears after passing through Sandiway, while clearly there is a stretch of de-restricted road between the end of the roadworks and the round house.

The situation travelling eastwards is even more confusing. I doubt very much that the signposting meets the Department of Transport's stringent standards.

I believe that the long-suffering public generally are well-behaved and tolerant to the problems they encounter on a daily basis on this stretch of road and their fortitude is to be congratulated.
