THE arrival of the meningitis vaccination has been welcomed by headteachers in Northwich, who say it will put many parents' minds at rest.

Weaverham High School's George Studd is pleased that the inoculation is at last being offered in schools and is confident that most pupils will consent to the injection.

"There's a great deal of parental concern about meningitis," he said. "So I would be very surprised if there's anyone that will not have it done. I have a feeling that most parents will welcome this."

Pete Jennings, spokesman for St Nicholas RC High School in Hartford, confirmed that the vaccination would be offered at his school on November 18.

"We expect that it will take place over one day but we have never done this before and whereas we have an idea how long the BCG takes, we are not sure how long it will take to give the meningitis vaccination."

He added: "As a parent and a member of staff I would think that having the vaccination is the most sensible course of action to follow."
