TV star Anthea Turner made a special visit to Leighton Hospital this week - to celebrate the opening of a new children's outpatient unit.

On Monday, she joined retired consultant paediatrician Dr Krishnan Chandran in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark its official opening.

Leighton's new purpose-built children's outpatient unit was named in honour of Dr Chandran, who established Mid Cheshire Hospital's paediatric service during his 27 year career.

Following the opening, Anthea, star of a host of popular children's and entertainment programmes, including BBC's Blue Peter and National Lottery Live, was given a tour of the new facilities, and met young patients and their parents.

"We were thrilled that Miss Turner accepted our invitation to put the seal on this very successful project with an official opening," said Dr Bob Pugh, clinical director for paediatrics.
