Members of the Knutsford and district branch of the Royal British Legion will lead the tribute at Booths supermarket at 11am on Thursday next week.
"Every year is special but it is a poignant way to close the second millennium and start the third," said legion chairman Maurice Cass.
The occasion will be doubly significant for Knutsford because the branch this year celebrates its 75th anniversary.
"We are hoping to spread the word to youngsters especially, so the memories of those killed and injured in battle won't fade out of memory," said Major Cass.
Ken Carsley, who is heading Knutsford's poppy appeal, said he had been involved in talking to schoolchildren about the war.
"I explain what it is all about and the children are very interested and ask the most intelligent questions," he said.
Mr Carsley said the branch hoped to top last year's poppy appeal of £15,000.
On Remembrance Sunday, veterans will march from Drury Lane at 10am to Knutsford Parish Church for the 10.45am service.
