A YOUNG schoolboy is taking the plunge to take part in the Sharron Davies Swim Challenge.
Scott Jones, five, of Runcorn has no fear of water and has been swimming since he was four with his grandmother, Mrs Evans.
She said:"Scott loves swimming and we thought it would be a nice way to raise sponsorship."
Scott, a pupil at Spinney Road primary school, Widnes will be swimming for the Imperial Cancer Research Fund.
He has entered the 50 widths challenge but is determined to complete much more.
Scott goes swimming twice a week with his grandmother at Runcorn swimming pool.
The Sharron Davies Gold Swim Challenges were set up 10 years ago and take place from November 1-30.
The aim is to encourage more people than ever, whatever their age or swimming ability, to take to the water.
It is hoped they will discover how, through regular swimming, health and fitness can be attained while at the same time helping others.
There are six different challenges - 50 widths, 50 lengths, 50 kilometres, 50 seconds, 50 minutes or 50 hours.
Participants can swim as an individual or as a team. Everyone who takes part receives a certificate of merit and depending on sponsorship raised, badges, T-shirts and towels.
Entry forms are available from participating pools or by telephoning the action line on 01382 451146.
