POLICE closed the M6 northbound on Monday to allow a beer tanker to be removed from an embankment.
The HGV was travelling southbound on the motorway at 4am when it crossed through the central reservation between junctions 16, at Barthomley, and 17, at Sandbach.
It came to rest partially up an embankment on the northbound carriageway and no one was injured although the lorry clipped two other HGVs.
To remove the lorry Staffordshire Police closed the M6 at junction 16 and set up a diversion through south Cheshire.
The motorway was closed for about two hours from 10.30am with drivers diverted along the A500, A34 and A50 before re-joining the M6 at junction 17.
