A WAR memorial is to be provided in Shavington as part of the millennium celebrations in the parish.
The parish council intends to put the memorial in the grounds of the village hall in Main Road.
A garden area has been designed for this purpose and the memorial will be for those servicemen who died on active service in the Second World War and also in later conflicts.
A memorial to those who died in the First World War already exists inside the former Shavington school building, which is now used as a youth club.
The parish council sought advice on this memorial but the stone it is made of is unsuitable for removing from the building and placing outside.
As a result the names from that memorial are to be copied and incorporated onto the new one.
The names of the servicemen from the Second World War and later conflicts to go on the memorial are: Denis Booker, Douglas Jeffrey Floey, Jack Gresty, Roy Gresty, Joseph Henshall, Richard Price Hughes, Harry Palin, Bill Plover, Percy Frederick Preston, Wilfred E Purcell and James Whitehead.
If anyone knows of any other names which should be included on the war memorial please contact Mr A Dickenson, clerk of the parish council, 5 Larch Avenue, Basford, Crewe, CW2 5AX or call 01270 663748.
Also if you know of any living relatives of these servicement the parish council would be pleased to hear from you.
