LAST week's seventh round of Barnton and Frodsham Angling Club's evening series on the Weaver at Anderton produced a bright start for Dave Cowley, who took three bream to 2-8-0 in the first hour from peg 42 on four-metre pole and sweetcorn.

He failed to take any more throughout the match, but his three bream plus bits total of 7-13-8 was still enough to win.

Runner-up on peg 41 was Steven West with 7-5-0 of roach and bream taken on maggot. Arthur Kenney claimed third place from peg 62 with 5-3-0.

John Lyon and Stan 'The Man' Atkinson now jointly lead the competition with 109 points, from Peter Moore on 105.

A four-metre pole approach to peg 36, using caster and hemp, proved the top method for Pete Wooldridge in the second round fixture in the veterans' Wednesday morning series for the Eric Hughston Trophy on the Weaver at Anderton.

Pete placed a winning 7-8-8 on the scales, with second spot going to John Dudley with 2-13-0 and David Gleave in third place with 2-9-0.

Wooldridge is the new overall leader with 39 points, with Dudley and Arthur Kenney in joint second on 37, with just one match remaining.

Rob Taylor notched his first win in the Wednesday evening seventh round on the Weaver at Saltersford.

Drawn at peg two, close to the locks, Rob used four-metre whip and white maggot to take 4-5-0 of roach and skimmers from the very near still-flowing river.

Peg 17 produced 3-12-8 and second spot for Geoff McCalmont, while the other framers were Peter Moore (3-9-0) and John Lyon (3-6-8).

Moore leads the series with 113 points, with Lyon on 105 and Arthur Kenney 93.

In Friday's all-night third round match for the Terry Heath Rose Bowl at Heesom's Pool, Mark Renshaw took top spot from peg 10 with 8-10-8 of rudd, crucians and tench taken on pole with maggot at five metres.

Ted Atkinson and Peter Moore were the other two framers with 7-14-0 and 6-6-8 from pegs 25 and 36 respectively.

Moore leads the contest with 58 points, from Dave Cowley on 54 and Atkinson on 50.

Bream were the deciding factor in Sunday morning's match based on the Weaver at Anderton, where Steven West and Bob Hughes fought it out for top weight on feeder tactics.

West turned out to be the winner, placing 12 bream in the weigh bag in two separate lots to record a level 20-0-0, all taken on sweetcorn and maggot from peg 47.

Sunday afternoon's mixed pairs Metcalfe Cup match on the middle cistern produced a win for junior section organisers Barbara and Peter Leicester.

Drawn by the lily pads, the pairing placed a combined weight of 7-2-8 on the scales, made up mainly of rudd plus a 2-0-0 tench.
