AN excellent knock of 77 not out from Dave Holden steered Davenham to a three-wicket win over Winsford in Saturday's clash at Butcher's Stile.

After winning the toss, Winsford batted first and notched a challenging score of 179-8. Colin Dean hit 50 - his first half-century of the season - and Andy Johnson 35, while Holden took 3-49, Alan Wright 2-43 and Dean Jackson 2-45.

A Winsford win looked on the cards when Davenham were then reduced to 9-3, Andy Beswick and Mark Dean doing the damage.

However, the home side recovered from their early woes to reach 180-7, with Holden's fine innings supported by useful contributions from Wright (30) and Mark Greaves (24).

Holden hit four sixes and seven fours in his match-winning knock.

Andy Beswick was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3-52, while Colin Dean claimed 2-41.

The result leaves Winsford struggling in the lower echelons of the table and desperately needing a win in this Saturday's tough home clash against Lindow.
