GARDENERS in Halton have been given the chance to bloom after being recognised as having some of the best gardens in the borough.

The green-fingered residents are blossoming after winning this year's Halton In Bloom competition run by the Borough Council's Environmental Services directorate and sponsored by ICI Chlor Chemicals.

The garden contest was open to all residents and businesses in Halton to find the best kept gardens in the borough.

Winner of the large garden category was David Mairs from Moore.

He picked up a trophy and £100 cash for his stunning garden.

Runner up prize of £50 cash and trophy went to Dorothy Barlow from Norton in Runcorn.

Marie Finney's garden in Widnes won the keen gardener an award in the 'Small Garden' category, whilst runner-up Marion Peterson scooped a prize for her small garden in Halton Lodge, Runcorn.

Gorsewood Primary School in Murdishaw picked up a £100 prize and trophy in the business and commercial premises category.

The school beat dozens of others for its clever usage of greenery in and around the playground.

Ten spot prizes of £20 cash were given out to those with outstanding garden features.

A special presentation evening will be held at the ICI Heath conference centre in Runcorn on Friday, August 25, where the winners will be presented with their trophies and cash prizes.
