Runcorn RJM Darts League

DESPITE an 18 dart game from P Gallagher, RNA lost their last chance of taking the Section Three championship last Thursday night when they went down 5/4 to the new champions Fiddlers III.

This also resulted in RNA slipping from second to third place making way for Prospect Has Beens who ran out 6/3 winners against Pavilions.

Perhaps the biggest surprise in this section was Old Transporter's 7/2 away victory over Waterloo with the Tranny winning only their second league victory of the season.

Section Four proved an even bigger shock for Castaways languishing at the foot of the table who ran out 5/4 winners against title contenders Union Tavern and to add insult to injury for the Union Tavern their opponents only had five players in attendance.

The best for the winners here was a 19 dart game from S Rowlands who then teamed up with J Watson to win their doubles game in 18 darts.

Railway were able to move ahead of Union Tavern into second place after beating Dock Lads 6/3.

Draymen were able to move up from next to the bottom in the table making way for their beaten 6/3 opponents Croft Magnets.

Raven are now two points clear of Dreadnaughts at the top of Section Five after they protected their unbeaten record when they ran out 7/2 winners against bottom of the table Castle.

Lion remain in third place after beating fourth placed Royal Oak by the odd game.

With Pirates having an open date, Outcasts were able to go two points clear at the top of Section Two after beating Barge 7/2.

This match produced three maximums, these coming from the winners A Jackson and the losers K Dand and J Smith.

Cherry Tree A team were able to move up to third place after beating Halfway Gents 8/1 whilst Halton Marauders slipped to fourth after losing out 5/4 to local rivals Norton.

Grapes maintained their two points lead at the top of Section Six after running out 6/3 winners against Halfway Mixed whilst second placed Docksiders beat Total Confusion by the same score line.

Eggie Arms were able to move up to third place after beating The Burma 7/2 the losers slipping to fourth.

Once again there was no change at the top of Section One with 7/2 victories for both Dockside B and Albion at the expense of Halfway A and Taverners respectively.

Dockside B's win included a trio of 17 dart games, these coming from M Smith, S Roberts and G Littlemore, whilst I White hit a maximum.

Despite losing out 6/3 to Wanderers, Likely Lads were able to move to outright third place.

At the foot of the table Jolly Brewer gained their second league victory of the season when they fought back from 3/1 down to run out 5/4 winners against Lion Doo Waps with R Booth finishing in 19 darts for the losers.

The third round of the Doubles Competition took place at the Runcorn Sports Club last Friday night.

In the first semi final Dockside B's Steve Roberts and John Hillan ran out 2/0 winners against Lion Doo Waps, Colin Rigby and Gary Bazley finishing the first leg in 16 darts.

Steve and John will now face Albion's Eamonn Hartigan and Steve Hughes who beat Taverners Ian Darlington and Chris Royle 2/1.

The losing quarter finalists were: Tommy Buckley & Fred Crofts (Raven); Ian White & Jerry Burke (Dockside B); Tony Anderton and Fran Reilly (Taverners) and Peter Illidge and John Hannon (Wanderers).

This Saturday, August 12, is the closing date for registration for the 2000/2001 Winter League.

League officials will be on hand to receive these at the Waterloo Hotel between 7.30pm and 10pm.

The league would be grateful that wherever possible teams could pay by cheque.

Also on this date, teams who hold league trophies from the 1999 Summer League should return these when registering their teams.
