FIVE young puglisits were flying high this week after passing the Liverpool Kids Gloves Scheme.

Tony Bond, Anthony MacTavish, Nadine Choudhary, Aaron Scattergood and Aaron Smith, all aged between 12 and 15, were among 200 young boys who took part in the annual event run by Liverpool County Council at various sports centres in the city.

The kids take part in diciplined training sessions and are judged by two ABA coaches on various movements.

Runcorn Boys Boxing Club coach Rab Shearer said: "The lads did really well. It was a privilege to watch them and the others who took part.

"The scheme is really well run by qualified national coaches and the lads excelled themselves."

All five passed with flying colours and were awarded certificates.

The club is now loking to put members into the Taster Scheme which is for seven to eight year olds.

Meanwhile, it was a sad week for the Boston Avenue club with the news that their chairman, Frank Carribine, had sadly passed away after a short illness.

Coach John Lally said: "Frank has been involved with the club for 14 years and was very highly thought of. He has done so much for the club and will be sadly missed by the coaches and the kids.

"Our deepest sympathy goes to his family."
