BNFL has appointed two new non-executive directors to its board.

They are Gordon Campbell and Bill Lowther.

Gordon is a former chief executive of Courtaulds and a former non-executive director of AEA Technology and Argos. Bill is director general of UCB Films, based in Cumbria. He is a JP and deputy lieutenant of Cumbria.

Both have been appointed for a period of three years and will receive a fee of £20,000 a year.

These are the first non-executive appointments following chairman Hugh Collum's announcement in April that the company would be replacing all of its non-executive directors over the next year.

Hugh Collum, BNFL chairman, said: "My intention is to build a board which has the commercial, public company and international experience to drive the business forward. The appointments of Gordon and Bill are an important step in this direction."

Further appointments will be announced.
