NURSE Paula Rimmer is off to Peru, trekking on the Inca trail, in the hope of raising £3,000 for a charity which buys wheelchairs and walking frames for disabled children.

She is going with members of London-based Whizz Kids which specialises in funding the equipment.

Paula, of Old Hall, is off on her travels with the support of her husband, Paul, who will be looking after their children, Sarah, seven, and Lydia, four, while she is away.

Efforts to find funding have already resulted in Paula raising £1,500. She has organised a race night, a fancy dress pub crawl, a tombola and supermarket bag packing. Companies are also paying £25 a time to get their logo on her Whizz Kids T shirt.

Paula was inspired to raise the funds after one of her colleagues at Warrington Hospital cycled across India for the charity.

In order to be fit for her trekking, Paula is working out at Hook and Jag Gym, Old Road, which is supporting her by offering her training facilities.

The wheel chairs which Whizz Kids provides are state-of-the-art and families of disabled children can apply for them.
