A PACKAGE of insulation and heating measures is being offered to families and individuals in the Sandbach area who face the greatest health risks.

Congleton Borough Council's Government funded Home Energy Efficiency Scheme aims to help those most in need.

Amongst those who qualify are the elderly, families with children under 16 and people who are registered disabled or chronically sick.

The scheme will provide energy savers including - loft insulation, draught proofing, cavity wall insulation, hot water tank insulation, gas room heaters, electric storage heaters and low energy light bulbs.

There is a maximum grant of £700, rising to £1,000 for households using on-peak electricity, bottled gas or paraffin for heating.

The scheme can also include gas central heating or electric central heating, but applicants must be over 60 years old and on an income-related benefit.

Experienced and qualified local companies can carry out the work. However, if qualifying individuals wish to carry out the work, a materials only grant of £250 can be claimed.

"This scheme is designed to save residents money on their insulation and heating," said Environmental Health Technician Alistair Bain.

"Anyone who thinks they may qualify should get in contact with the Council as soon as possible," he added.
