DRIVERS are being warned to ensure child passengers are safely fitted into restraints when out on the road.
The alert is aimed at raising awareness of a local scheme where drivers are able to obtain free, unbiased advice from trained technicians regarding the correct fitting of their child restraint.
The scheme is run by several garages who are all members of the Fitsafe-Sitsafe scheme and a list of the garages involved is available from the Cheshire Road Safety Unit on 01244 603728.
The scheme points out to drivers that secondhand restraints may be cheap, but are a false economy. Often the restraint is damaged and fails to protect the child in the case of an accident.
The law states the driver of a vehicle is responsible for keeping child passengers safe during a journey so it is essential that all child restraints are correctly installed.
