NORTHWICH Memorial Hall's 40th birthday celebrations continue with a treat for anyone who remembers the swinging 60s - and many who don't.

For joining the party at the beginning of next month is legendary pop group The Searchers who have seen a resurgence in popularity in recent years.

The foursome have seen several different faces since they began in 1962 as support for country and western singer Johnny Sandon in Liverpool.

Following their first No 1 with Sweets For My Sweet, the band went on to have a string of well known hits including Needles And Pins, and Don't Throw Your Love Away.

Having been at the heart of the 'Mersey Boom', helping to form the golden decade of British pop music, they still wow audiences with a mixture of old favourites and new music.

In 1989 they played to an 80,000 sell-out Wembley Stadium concert as part of Cliff Richard's 30 years in showbiz celebrations.

John Moulton from 3J Promotions said: "The Searchers headline major theatre tours around the country and have recently started performing their own special solo concerts.

"Now they are coming to the memorial hall and it's a real coup for Northwich.

"It gives the ever increasing fans a great opportunity to enjoy a range of material including their well known hits and rarely seen acoustic performed songs."

The Searchers appear, with Adeva Disco, on Saturday, September 2 at 7.30pm. Tickets, costing £12.50 are available on 01606 834914.
