TWO intrepid students are off to foreign climes later this year to further their studies.

Kate Dyke and Ruari Lennon have both taken a year out of university to take part in a training programme with the Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) group.

The 20-year-olds will be soaking up valuable hands-on experience which will aid them through their courses.

Kate, of Cinnamon Lane, Fearnhead, is studying animal science at Nottingham University.

She will be jetting off in September to spend 12 months with the Meru and Pharata-Nithi dairy goat and animal healthcare project in Kenya. There she will be working with FARM-Africa to introduce British breeds of goat in a bid to increase milk production in the region.

Ruari, of Padgate Lane, Bruche, is studying environmental science at Bangor University in North Wales. He is off to study rice with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in the Philippines and will fly out at the end of the month.

Both have had to raise £500 to take part and Ruari has been helped along the way by Warrington Personnel, Millman's Coaches, Blueprint Marketing, the University of Wales and Peter Stubs Wires - but still needs backers.

Anyone interested in sponsoring them can call 07050 111 632.
