A CRUSHING 10 wicket defeat by Macclesfield put Alsager CC further into the relegation mire on Saturday.

After electing to bat, Alsager got off to a dreadful start losing openers Talbot and Armitage with only eight runs on the board.

Gary Stanyer tried to battle with a bold 21 but apart from Pickford who notched 16, the rest crumbled against Macc's attack.

As Stanyer departed on 61 for 5, the writing was on the wall and Alsager slumped to 68 all out.

In reply, the second-placed team reached their target without loss to complete a dismal afternoon for Alsager.

The biggest crowd of the season at Alsager saw them knocked out of the County Cup in a thrilling semi-final encounter on Sunday.

Over 100 spectators saw Wallasey reach 141 for 9 off their allotted 40 overs which proved just enough as Alsager chased but just missed out by 21 runs.

Alsager meet Neston at home this Saturday, start 12.30pm and Oxton in the League Cup quarter finals at home on Sunday, start 1pm.
