A SUMMER crackdown on drink driving has been launched by police.

The message being put out is think before you drink and the initiative will mean a high police presence in Congleton and surrounding areas.

The campaign will also involve random spot checks on major roads during the months of August and September which is intended to deter drivers from drinking and driving.

A police spokeswoman said: "Anti-drink drive campaigns are normally associated with the Christmas holidays, however, it is actually more common during the summer months for drivers to be tempted to drink and drive."

"Police officers will be stopping drivers throughout the campaign so do not be one of the statistics," she added.
